Meet Dr. Wendy Brown

I’m a mom and business owner, originally from Western NY, and I love the Roanoke community and its beautiful mountains.  I also really love helping people be well.

I originally moved to this area in 2007 as an Associate Doctor prior to opening InnerSun Family Chiropractic, LLC in January 2014. I earned my professional degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and have continued post-graduate work in pediatrics, nutrition, and functional medicine.

As Chiropractor, the philosophy of Chiropractic is as important to me as the art and science. Chiropractic has been historically undervalued as a means of pain relief, as well as a last-ditch effort to try “when nothing else works.” I know, however, that it is the key to optimal health and healing, regardless of whether a symptom has presented itself or not, or what type of symptom it is. The brain and spinal cord control and coordinate all functions and processes of the body: From our thoughts, moods, and feelings to our digestion, heartbeat, breathing, immunity, and cell function. Any interference in this function weakens the body and eventually contributes to or results in pain, illness, degenerative processes, and disease. When we address the cause of a symptom and correct it, the symptom goes away. Better, though, is the fact that the body has minimized or eliminated a stressor or problem that weakened it. For decades now we have been taught to take a pill, potion, lotion, or cream to mask a symptom. Great marketing that keeps us buying products–but at what cost to our health?

My education has taught me that it’s the knowledge of not only when to adjust but also when not to adjust that is the key to the effectiveness of chiropractic. Specificity in adjusting techniques is vital to eradicating vertebral subluxation–the underlying interference to nerve flow between the brain and body —which decreases health and causes pain over time. For this reason, I utilize both low-force as well as standard adjusting techniques dependent upon practice member presentation and progression.

Health and wellness are multi-faceted and in this day of dependence upon pharmacology as well as lifestyles that include processed foods, little exercise, and more environmental pollutants, I believe that it’s my responsibility as a Chiropractor to address each person as a whole. Removing a subluxation will help increase health and relieve symptoms, but they are sure to return if we are not nourishing our body optimally–mind, body, spirit. I encourage every member in my practice to incorporate better habits that will “add years to their lives and life to their years”–as well as consistently provide up-to-date information they can use to reduce or eliminate health hazards, increase wellness, and maintain their results.

Truly, I love partnering with those I serve who are intent on creating whole, healthy bodies—naturally.
